This hugely popular stamp sheet was first issued on 15th September 2011 to mark the 350th anniversary of the postmark and provides a fascinating visual record for postmark and postal heritage enthusiasts. Adjacent to the stamps are different postmarks that illustrate in chronological order the development of the postmark which Henry Bishop, Postmaster General from 1660 to 1663, is credited with introducing in 1661 as a means of preventing the re-use of postage stamps. Indeed postmarks were originally referred to as ‘Bishop marks’.
